Nottingham Team Relay and Sprint Triathlon

On the 2nd and 3rd of August Betty & I went camping for the weekend in Nottingham. We were there because BTS had entered a few teams in the National Team Relays. Betty agreed to be a last minute replacement for Dick’s team and I was racing with Phillipa, Janice and Neil. This is a four person relay with a 500m swim, 15km ride and a 5km run. The first racer swims and then hands over the baton to the second racer who swims the second leg and so on through out the race. It’s nice to be able to go and change between the three disciplines (while your fellow team members race their legs of the race) and get some fresh kit. Anyway we had a great day and all the BTS teams did OK. This was followed by lots of beer while we watched the afternoon race which was the same format. Followed by more beer and a Bar-B-Q before hitting the sack about midnight.

Day two at Nottingham is a individual sprint Triathlon, 750m swim, 20km bike followed by a 5km run. I took Ian Crabtree’s place as he wasn’t feeling too well. The race was great and is somewhat similar to racing at Dorney as it is in and around a rowing lake. The five BST members that raced were well supported by the BTS WAGS and people with hangovers who had stayed the night and weren’t racing on Sunday. I will post a video of the race soon. It was a close finish with some sprinting for the line. I was pleased with my finish time 01:10:36.
